Kindle Daily Deals ...

I've never really done a specific post about this before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Each and every day, Amazon releases 4+ books for the Kindle at a reduced prices (usually $.99-$2.99) and even more randomly, it's an entire series. That's when I get excited. TODAY ONLY, the ENTIRE "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer is on sale for $2.99. The novella, "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" is $1.99.
Because this is more than likely a promotion for her newest film release, "The Host" is also on sale for $1.99.

On a semi-unrelated note, my Breaking Dawn part 2 DVD should be here today! Woot!

"Beautiful Disaster" by Jamie McGuire

Started March 27, 2013 - Ended March 29, 2013

Travis Maddox. Enough said.

From Amazon: INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

I have to admit this book did sort of annoy me. Travis went from bad boy extraordinaire to Mr. Co-Dependent. That being said, he's still sexy as hell. I've been eyeing this book for months, and I'm glad I read it. I'm especially glad the next one, "Walking Disaster", comes out this week. I WILL be reading it. I give Beautiful Disaster an B++.

"The Selection" by Kiera Cass

Started March 24, 2013 - Ended March 26, 2013

I should not have read this book.

From Amazon: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I say I should not have read this book, because it is months before the second installment comes out. I am NOT a patient person. "The Selection" was a mix of "Hunger Games" and "The Bachelor". Juicy. As much as it's like everything else out there at the moment though, it is unique in it's own right. This might have been the end of my dystopian society kick simply because I'm irritated I have to wait to finish. I give "The Selection" a B.

"Hopeless" by Colleen Hoover

Started March 20, 2013 - Ended March 23, 2013

I find a lot of random books to read via Amazon's daily deal page.

Recommended for mature readers due to sexual content and heavy subject matter involving abuse.

From Amazon: Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies...

That's what Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she's never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he's nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn't at all who he's been claiming to be. When the secrets he's been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky's life will change forever.

Dean Holder has to be one of the most perfect (literary) boyfriends ever. So yes, the book gets sort of sappy. But honestly who doesn't want someone that loves you unconditionally and supports every move you make? "Hopeless" has a lot of twists and turns that eventually tie the entire story together, and I like that. The characters have depth and you really do like them. "Hopeless" does deal with very sensitive subject matter, but it's done very tastefully. I enjoyed this book and will probably read more by Colleen Hoover. I give "Hopeless" a B+.

"Unravel Me" by Tahereh Mafi

Started March 17, 2013 - Ended March 19, 2013

Hell fire and damnation, this was an amazing book.

From Amazon: tick
tick
tick
tick
tick
it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

It is rare to find a sequel that surpasses the original. This book does it. "Shatter Me" enthralled me. "Unravel Me" hooked me. I cannot wait to find out what happens next! I have yet to read the novella, "Destroy Me", that actually goes between book 1 and 2 (there was a HUGE wait for it at the library) but I will be doing so as soon as it's available. Because I'm obsessed and can't wait to read the next installment, I give "Unravel Me" an A.

"Shatter Me" by Tahereh Mafi

Started March 15, 2013 - Ended March 17, 2013

"Shatter Me" is a cross between "The Hunger Games" and "X-Men." I'm totally OK with that.

From Amazon: "You can't touch me," I whisper.

I'm lying, is what I don't tell him.

He can touch me, is what I'll never tell him.

But things happen when people touch me.

Strange things.

Bad things.

No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.

But Juliette has plans of her own.

After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever.

Imagine being unable to touch anyone without hurting them. That is the reality Juliette is faced with each and every day. "Shatter Me" was a light, fluffy read that I enjoyed until the last page. It's part of a series (of course it is), so I'm anxiously awaiting "Destroy Me", a novella from the perspective of the main baddie to hit my inbox so I can start book 2, "Unravel Me". Because I'm anxious to see what happens next, I give "Shatter Me" a B.

"The Magnificent Rogue" by Iris Johansen

Started March 10, 2013 - Ended March 12, 2013

I was in the mood for a good, old-fashioned bodice ripper. I chose a novel by Iris Johansen because she is a classic romance author. Lots of steamy love scenes, inner turmoil, and sexy leading men.

From Amazon: A princess and a warrior-chief are swept from the glittering courts of Elizabethan England to the storm-tossed cliffs of the Scottish Highlands, in an engrossing tale of peril and desire.

So I ended up with Influenza B and was bed bound and ill for the better part of a week. Because I didn't feel well, I wasn't really into the whole reading scene and picked this book up only when the meds I was taking had kicked in and I was comfortable enough to sit still. I wanted to love this book, and I might have, had the main heroine and love interest not been 16 years old. Creepy. So mostly for that reason I give "The Magnificent Rogue" a C.

"Through the Ever Night" by Veronica Rossi

Started March 6, 2013 - Ended March 9, 2013

"Through the Every Night", the sequel to "Under the Never Sky", was a typical second book. Good, yet merely a bridge to the next book in the series.

Caution - the synopsis below contains spoilers for the first book.

Amazon: It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death.

Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him.

Now Aria and Perry are about to be reunited. It's a moment they've been longing for with countless expectations. And it's a moment that lives up to all of them. At least, at first. Then it slips away. The Tides don't take kindly to former Dwellers like Aria. And the tribe is swirling out of Perry's control. With the Aether storms worsening every day, the only remaining hope for peace and safety is the Still Blue. But does this haven truly exist?

Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

I was excited to see where Perry and Aria went next in their story. And I'm even more excited to follow up with them in the future to see if they find the Still Blue. I'm even more intrigued by Roar and his story, which is why I'm eager to read the novella Roar and Liv. This is a series I will return to when it continues. I give "Through the Ever Night" a strong B.

"Under the Never Sky" by Veronica Rossi

Started March 3, 2013 - Ended March 5, 2013

"Under the Never Sky" hit my radar around the same time as "Across the Universe" and "Delirium". So for some reason I was sure I had already read it. Turns out, I was wrong.

Amazon: In a world of danger

an unlikely alliance

breathtaking adventure

and unforgettable romance

I'm on a HUGE YA kick right now. This isn't unusual for me, I thoroughly enjoy the genre. However, I usually try to spread it between more meaty novels. Kind of like the cream filling in an Oreo. If one were to take a look at my Kindle though, they would see a plethora of filling. I must have went Double Stuffed. I enjoyed "Under the Never Sky". It wasn't super original or earth-shatteringly amazing, but the characters were likable enough and there was a gradual progression of their relationships. I ended the book eager to start it's sequel, "Through the Ever Night". I give "Under the Never Sky" a strong B.

"The Shoemaker's Wife" by Adriana Trigiani

Started February 26, 2013 - Ended March 3, 2013

I picked up this novel to read for THE PHENOMENALLY INDECISIVE BOOK CLUB, which is hosted by my friend Jules. (You can find her amazing blog, Pancakes & French Fries here.) I'm so glad I did.

From Barnes & Noble: The fateful first meeting of Enza and Ciro takes place amid the haunting majesty of the Italian Alps at the turn of the last century. Still teenagers, they are separated when Ciro is banished from his village and sent to hide in New York's Little Italy, apprenticed to a shoemaker, leaving a bereft Enza behind. But when her own family faces disaster, she, too, is forced to emigrate to America. Though destiny will reunite the star-crossed lovers, it will, just as abruptly, separate them once again—sending Ciro off to serve in World War I, while Enza is drawn into the glamorous world of the opera . . . and into the life of the international singing sensation Enrico Caruso. Still, Enza and Ciro have been touched by fate—and, ultimately, the power of their love will change their lives forever.

"The Shoemaker's Wife" is an epic story of two amazingly strong people who spend their wholes lives looking for something. Love, happiness, faith ... This novel brings me to mind of an old-school Danielle Steele story ("Zoya", I'm talking to you). Unlike so many books today, it tells an entire story in one go. There are no sequels, there isn't a spin-off ... although I would totally buy it if there was. Even more interesting author Adriana Trigiani posts on her website, "It is my highest dream and most humble honor to present the fictionalized story of the life of my grandfather, a shoemaker, and his true love, my grandmother, a seamstress, who was most proud to be The Shoemaker’s Wife." It's that human edge that gives "The Shoemaker's Wife" it's beauty. I give this novel an A.
